Home on the Range One of my great joys in Life is photography and videography ~ this is one of my favorites! Martial Arts entered my life in Kodiak, Alaska by Sensei Les Kelso and became a constant until this day. This song was written by Andrea Bailey and performed by Harry Burkstaller, who introduced me to Les. The decade I devoted to building Spyderco gave me insight into the Cutlery industry and led back to martial arts and the development of the American KunTao Silat system as my Martial LifeStyle. Seeking the Creator since my middle teens has been paramount in my life and fills all endeavor with His presence. Practicing the “kembaggan” or martial dance of the Indonesian silat arts to spiritual music combines three of my main interests into my computerized business interests and the working day. My primary focus for many years was my wife and Children, April Rose Gartin and Elijah Rock Gartin. They practiced reading Scripture and practicing martial arts, photography and videography with me from early childhood. KunTao Silat is an evolving Martial LifeStyle. Here’s what it looked like in 2018. Motorcycles have been a major influence in my life from the first trip on my new 350 Honda from Seattle to Ketchikan, Alaska in 1969. In 1970 I rode my new 450 Honda from Kodiak, Alaska to Florida and back to Galveston for my last duty station in the United States CoastGuard. Let me share a bit of the Land that I love and have chosen to remain since 2008. An Enchanting Land! Music has also been a pursuit of enjoyment to me from earliest memories. Cameras and bands go together seamlessly and worthy of reporting as news. KunTao Silat and training with various animals also fits together seamlessly. In the Martial LifeStyle of KunTao Silat, most of the practice and training is done solitary ~ forms is one. Djurus Satu is the First Form in both the Malabar and American systems ~ minor differences exist that adjust for youth, old age and chronic injuries that practitioners may be subject to. june-2023-epaperDownload
